Ashes of the Heart

The breaking of a heart is ever so subtle
Alone inside the breast it aches
Turning the joys of lovin' into rubble
.
Where once the flames were alive with passion
Dancing with delight and fervor for living
And yet, upon the heart's floor is only ashes
.
The remains of a fire that raged with desire
Fed by longings so seldom e'er spoken
In the deepest part of man, dwells this fire.
.
With oceans of tears the fire is quenched
As the warmth is consumed by coldness
And the soul of man is dark and wrenched
.
Somewhere in the ashes an amber glows
Longing for fuel to leap to life once more
This is life! Look inside, the heart knows.
