Patience

There was a wall.
A very strong one,
Built around my heart.
It was built strong enough.
Strong enough to keep out love.

And around that wall,
I put a chain with a lock.
I threw away the key.
Threw it in a haystack,
Hoping it would never be found.

I cried to myself,
Hoping the pain would go away....
I knew I had hid the key well...
But not well enough.

One day,
You walked into my life.
I don't think that you had the key yet.
I don't think that you were looking.
But soon, I knew....
You had it all along.

You unlocked the chain....
And slowly broke down the wall.
The first time you held me,
You broke down a large part of the wall.
And when you gently kissed me the first time,
You broke the rest of it down.

When I feel the love you have for me,
I close my eyes and wonder,
"How could I have posibably done to deserve this?"
Then I realize.
My patience brought you to me.
And I hope it keeps you with me.

I love you so very much.
More than I ever wanted to.
But always remember,
I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
It may never happen,
But if it did,
I would be the happiest girl in the world.
