Light

They walked along the beach as they listened to the waves crash along the shore. Her
hand in his, he felt different--but he knew why as soon as the sun dropped below the
horizon.

When it is dark outside, you marvel at the beauty of the world around you. You go
outside to find stars and constellations and imagine of other worlds. You can even see the
faint low clouds moving across the white glow of the moon. Their airy form gently
brushes against the moons horizon. Inside your bedroom at night, you see your furniture
by the glow of the moonlight through the window. The shape of your nightstand, and its
shadow reflection in the mirror of your dresser.

You lie back, take a deep breath and exhale as you relax in your world. It is beautiful--
and you are content in this land of shapes, forms, and of soft moonlight. "There cannot be
anything better than this", you think.

Then someone turns on the lights. It startles you at first since you are not used to it. You
instinctively cover your eyes, trying to protect yourself from this new and foreign
predicament. Within time, you start to discover something new: not just shapes, but
textures. Not just light, but colors. The colors seem to mix into pleasing combinations:
red and green, blue and yellow. You start to recognize the colors and shapes into higher
forms: The towering green shape in the corner you distinguish as a houseplant. These
new sensations awaken your senses: You can even smell the freshness of the houseplant.

You think back to your old world with loving memories. You were content, and you
never knew that this new world even existed. Your new world is a higher form of the old
one. The old one had its purpose and was wonderful. But the new one allows you to
experience much more, and it is precious.

He stops walking and lightly tugs on her hand. She stops, then turns to face him as their
hands join once again. He smiles, and with a tear in his eye, he whispers to her, "You are
my light."
