Blue eyes

His downcast blue eyes were shining, the soft lips trembling. One could see
the slight wobble of his chin. Sliding a tapered finger under his chin,
lifting his teary face up to the light, she admonishes softly in a chiding
voice. “Who said you could open the box?”

He shrugs forlornly, unable to speak for fear of disappointing her further.
Her loving gaze is missed as he looks down again. “It’s ok sweetheart, go on.”
A brief hesitation, almost not believing his fortune, then his form darts away,
a shouting laugh in exultation.

She smiles and shakes her head, watching him disappear around the corner.
Thinking to herself, how can she ever deny him? It’s allright, she murmurs.
Standing up she laughs, knowing who said he could open the box, and as sure as
the sun shines, she’s going to spank him. The one whose blue eyes shine too
from the eyes of her son. He’s coming home soon.
