What I Cannot Forget

There was a time when you were mine.
You seeded in me a feeling sublime.
You taught me things I never knew,
All the things that love can do;
Like fill you soul with joy,
Add sweetness to your days,
Light its fire in your heart,
Let you burn within its blaze.

You say this love of yours and mine
Must now be left behind.
I understand why this is what you need to do,
Problem is, I'm still in love with you,
But the seasons change
And things can't be the way they were before.
So now we're just friends
And I must act like we are nothing more.

I wish our love could have had more time.
I still wonder if your heart was meant for mine.
I never touched you.
I never held you.
I try to lock my feeling inside,
Hoping this isn't something we will come to regret,
But my love is strong and pure,
And tears release what I cannot forget.

And I wonder,
Could you ever again be mine?
