Bus Ride

I left my lover today, standing under
the noonday sun.
And before I even had time to lick my
lips, still sweet from his kiss,
he was gone . . .
far too soon -

So where do I go from this flux of change?
Far too in love to quit -
drowning in lonliness.
Who was it that said,
"Absence makes the heart grow fonder"?
It - just - makes - mine - ache.

But I hold tight to the day when only thought
will separate me from my love . . .
In a space of our own
In a life where we are the only players.

So I bandage my heart,
unravelling only for Him -
living only for the press of His lips,
His sweet kisses,
and His precious breath -
whispering my name.
