Paste on My Fingers

It occured to me the other day
just how many loves there are.

I was deep in love once.
It started out slowly
germinating
It grew
teetering on the brink of existence
never sure of rain or sunlight
One day it bloomed
The most beautiful love
and almost immediately
it was torn from the soil
and pressed into a paper scrap book.

I thought I was in love once.
I walked the length of a beautiful beach
picking up shells
not noticing the seaweed
I gave into the waves' invitation
and was left lifeless and swollen
on a distant coast.

I am happy in love now.
One day I walked outside
and it was sunny
It never seems to rain anymore
or if it does
it's a fine mist that moistens the earth
and turns everything green
A million blades of grass
covered in crystal dew.

I sleep and do not dream.

I haven't the need.

My happy dreams are you.
