Hey everyone. I've been taking a vacation and trying to
organize my thoughts. I've got about fifty things a minute
going through my mind and It's kindof hard to think clearly.
I'll talk to you all later.

I am desperately trying to find something to let a special
man know I have been thinking about him. Do men enjoy
recieving flowers? Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you.
I do. Mo often grabs a cutting from outside (we're sharing a big semi-communal house with lots of flowers surrounding it) and sticks it on my car for me to find when I split for work. And I've been known to make the occasional stop at the florist's on the way home. But still, it probably depends on the guy-- there may be some who are not comfortable with the 'role reversal' that implies. Hopefully, any reasonable guy could get over that kind of thinking in a hurry

Dear Blenderees:
As a hopeless romantic I peruse this site whenever I need
a lift. Thank you all for your splendiferous contributions
and taking the risk to give of your soul (exception- that
ugly ongoing personal chatter which should be banned
from this place as it stains the purpose of this site).

Now I need your help: I have been asked to do a reading
for my dear friend's wedding celebration (she will be
married in a kayak downunder, but coming to the States
for a proper celebration). She is 30 years old, adventurous,
an avid outdoorsy nature girl, world traveler, believes in
magic and history and all of the soulful pleasures of life.
Underneath it all, she is still an "Atherton" girly girl.
She is Irish heritage, he is from New Zealand, a helicopter
pilot. They met in Antarctica.

Any non-biblical, non-typcial (Apache prayer, etc.been there
done that) suggestions would be appreciated. I'll check
back. Bless you!

Do you display all the poems that you receive and then
categorize them in the journals or are only some of the
many that you received put in the journals?
Almost every poem I get (minus a few that are clearly having nothing to do with romance) gets placed in the "Heart on Sleeve" corner section of every month's Digest. The categories are selected by the author/submitter from a short list. Every month, I choose 10 or so works to feature on the front page of the Blender, the ones that manage to strike the loudest chord in me and, I hope, others.

Desparately Eryn,
Since the Blender Board is quiet, and well after 35 years I
have some experience with men, I will venture an answer
to your plea. Flowers are indeed appreciated by men.
Appeal to their ego, have them publicly delivered somewhere
(with a cryptic note).

I would suggest you skip the typical and go for something original.
What says "you?" All white: orchid, freesia, snap dragons.
Exotic: delphinian, tiger or stargazer lilly, iris.
Sunny: One big sun flower! Carefree: A huge armload of wildflowers,
carefully arranged to get than messy, euro-chic
look. If you must give roses, mix them with berries or an herb, like rosemary.

If flowers seem too serious, consider a cutting out magazine
letters for a ransom note, or mail him one clue a day (an
object that starts with the same letters of your name or
green m&ms) over a two-week period or whatever says I
am thinking about YOU!

If you are willing to take the beyond "thinking about you" risk, have
flowers delivered with an invitation to meet you
somewhere .. the cemetary for champagne? Intrigue him.

What is he interested in? Let that be your guide. Be creative, be witty,
be confident... just don't be a stalker.

Good luck.
Great Ideas-- and for the record, I like sunflowers. And daisies. If I'm any indication, guys prefer single flower collections to mixed bouquets.

Ok i've written poems a lot of poems
to the love blender and only one's gotten
picked to for the monthly issue.
Does this mean i suck as a poet and i should quit
writting poems cause they aren't good, because well
the people i know like what i write but it doesn't seem
like the loveblender person likes them?

Loved two of your pieces that were on the front page of July's issue.
Especially your funny one.

Kirk,
Loved you mentioning fireworks. I have a
strange fascination with them, I look forward
to July for two main reasons. My birthday at
the end of the month, and July 4th, for the fireworks.
This year, I got to watch them with my long-time steady,
leaning up against him, melting in his arms, as the
pretty sky lit up will sustain me for awhile. *s*
Nice. And I was especially impressed by L. Penney's range of works, three things, all very different.

Yes, my picks likely say as much about me and my tastes and moods as they do about the works that are picked or left in Heart-on-Sleeve corner. From: Rennie Lorca (for TruLeigh)
Date: 7 July 1998

Dear Eve,

Few people have insight on why an author actually is moved
to write a certain verse...let me give you some information
that will drive that home to you. A verse, although
written about a certain event, may have been sparked by
another..."LOST SOULMATE" was just such the case. Although
I had always been interested in the soulmate phenomenon, I
did not start to write "lost" for that reason. This verse
was written after I came home and found my husband of more
than a quarter century, dead on the ground from an
accident. His eyes and mouth looked as though there was
one more question for me...never to be asked or answered.
The earth did wobble for me at that instant...it shuddered,
it came to a screeching, roaring stop...and then I felt peace.
I came in and put those words to pen, and to each who reads
them, there may be a different
interpretation...that is the nature of verse. Although very
close, my husband was not my soulmate by any definition. I
have since found, or we have found each other, my soulmate
and I. You will find that verse as "GRATEFUL TO MY HEART"...
and a few other verses that are dedicated to the love we share.
A soulmate should not make you miserable...that is not the
nature of a soulmate. If you are unhappy, then look again
for that person who will make you grateful............Rennie Lorca

I have read all your work...
and will continue to do so!
They are rich with the events
and emotions of life!

I knew of your lose when I read,
"Always Beloved"
Your pain, in "Where are you now?"
My heart went out to you!

This man, perhaps not your soulmate.
But you loved him genuinely. Reflected in
your words.

God bless your union with your soulmate!
Few in life, will ever know this depth.
My pain, comes from a choice I had to make.
For my childern, not my heart...
And if the 'soulmate theory' is what
it is...when God/Life permitts... I will
have him again! Sacrafice what we are
now, for what we will be...
                        thank you Tru...

Can we use the "F-word" in poems submitted to here? Because
I have a poem that uses the "F-word" in it,
and it kind of uses the word a lot, kinda like in every line of this one
stanza. If yes i will submit it, but like I will use the
#$#@ notation instead of using the actual word, if not I won't submit it.
thanks,
mark u

As long as it fits the work and the whole piece is on-topic for the Blender, it's allowed. (I'm against censorship, but for editorial interference to keep things on-topic)

It would be polite to include a warning in the "brief description" however.

Hi Kirk, and Blenderites,
Was very happy to be included in July issue,
but just wanted to state that my husband and I are
real people. We don't just sail around in a pleasent
pink mist, and getting to where we've gotten has taken
time, work, patience, and a lot of love. We are totally
different kinds of people---I'm a writer of sorts, he's
a scientist with the soul of an artist. Feel the pain
of love that has not panned...have been there. Just
not there now, or lately, so please don't think I'm
being smug or superior.
Write on folks---it gets you through the harsh stuff,
and is that which makes us, and keeps us human. Au Bientot!

I simply adore the Kyle Parrish poem, "as it happens."
As it happens, it captures such a perfect snapshot of
the stoppage of time, the complexity of beauty and
suffering and desire and honesty. I can't stop reading
it. It strikes a particularly sonorous chord that
keeps me trembling. This poem makes me happy to be
alive so that I'm around to read it.
It's a real stunner. Kyle and I went to the same University, had a poetry class together, even have had turns carrying a torch for the same woman. He's a much better poet than I am, however.
From: Lewis
Date: 8 July 1998

If I had a woman and left poems on her makeup table, they
would be poems that I wrote myself. I might also leave
Cool Water scented Elvis Presley and Rod Stewart lyrics.
Ex.- "Little sister don't you do what your big sister
done" by The King or "You're every love song ever written,
but honey what do you see in me?" by the Rodster.
Here is a little something i thought up while sitting on
the toilet one full moon night back in '79:
some girls bitch 'cause I can't take 'em
          to Spago's
some girls whine 'cause i won't feed 'em tacos
        but one girl i know
     just goes wit da flow
and that's why this white hombre
       loves her so

Eve;
Thank you for the kind remark in regards to "Moment of Love"
last month. I am relatively new here, and learning to find
my way around here. I "tripped" across your comment. Thank You!

And to all the others here, I've enjoyed reading the works by
so many posted here, I've seen Hearts and Thoughts expressed
here without boundries. Words that manage to gently reach out
to touch a heart, dry a tear, to well with laughter, to silently
reflect on one's heart. Thank you for the gifts.

Imagination, creativity and heart are the things that lead us to
moments, chances, and possibilities in life. Enjoy!

Thanks, TK. Glad you enjoyed my goofiness. Here's a little
something I wrote not too long ago. This was inspired by
Beanie Baby mania:

some girls like roses and bottles of perfume
       some girls like cars
            that go ZOOM ZOOM!!!
but that's not my girl's idea
                  of a Valentine
buy her Beanie Babies and she'll be just fine
            She got Snort and Baldy
              Waves and Peace
Roary and still her desire don't cease
says she's got to have Velvet
       and that damn kangaroo
pretty soon my girl will have her own zoo
now she's got me watchin' QVC
               and surfin' the Net
for all the Beanies she has to get

From: Lewis (again)
Date: 9 July 1998

No, not all my poems start with "some girls". I KNOW someone
out there was probably wondering about that. Check this out:

lonesome on the oil rig tonight
         just me and the coyotes
and a bottle of Bud Light
          with me in West Texas
            and you in Montana
my only diversion is a hooker named Anna
            unlike you
           she has a tattoo
and that's why this country boy
            feels so blue

So, as you can plainly see, I am a diverse poet of intense
talent. Am I the only Blenderite who thinks "You're the
Reason God Made Oklahoma" is the best friggin' love song
ever written? I can't find it anywhere, not even in
Wal-Mart. Yet another reason to suck my thumb and cry.

From: Karis Allison
Date: 9 July 1998

Don't cry, Lewis. Have you tried Hasting's or Target?
K-Mart, perhaps? I love that song but I don't think it's
the best love song ever written. I think that the best love
song ever written is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, "Purple
Rain" by Prince. Not The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.
Prince, dammit!! PRINCE.

From: Lewis
Date: 9 July 1998

Thanks for the pun, Honeybun. But I am so sorry, I am
engaged to be married. I'm not sorry that I am engaged
to be married, that is, but sorry that I knock your socks
off and nothing can be done about it. You must feel the
way Paul McCartney's fans felt when he married that Kodak
chic.
And Karis, I'm sorry, but you are wrong. How can "Purple
Rain" even begin to compare to "You're the Reason God Made
Oklahoma"? How can lyrics such as,"I never meant to cause
you any sorrow, I never meant to cause you any pain" (WUSS!)
even begin to compare to lyrics such as,"The Santa Monica
freeway sometimes makes a country girl blue"????
And I already tried those places you mentioned, but
many thanks.

Hey Guys--
I finally got around to (hopefully) fixing the word-wrap problem of the comments page, in a way that should work in both MSIE and Netscape browsers.

Here's the deal: you no longer have to press RETURN to end each line-- instead, the browser will wrap the text for it automagically. Then when the text is displayed, every time you pressed return, it will show up as a line break in the text.

The upside is that I no longer have to put all comments in <PRE></PRE> blocks, giving it that funky typewriter look (though I could get that look back with <FONT> tags) and we should no longer have that "line going on and on" problem.

The downside is that all whitespace except linebreaks is ignored, and that the text expands to fill the width of the browser (helpful hint: when reading wide text in a page, decrease the width of your browser window, this makes it much easier to read.)

Well, i typed a long comment mostly to see what it ends up looking like...

I think the best song is "Love Hurts"by Jon b. I know most of you won't know it but just listen to these words:

VII: Some people will tell you it's the best thing for the heart.
But what they fail to tell you it can tear your life apart.
It's as sweet as summer rain.
But it can hit you like a train.
And fill your heart with Pain..

Chorus: LOve hurts and it don't. Love don't always work.
Love ain't all it seems. It feels good but it stings.
Love hurts and it don't.

Bridge: When you know you're alive coz you feel so much pain.
When you feel you can't survive but you make it anyways.
When it feels too good to stop, but it hurts too much 2 stay.
Then you know, yes you know, you gotta know, love hurts.
It hurts and it don't...

I don't care what anyone says.. That song will always be the best in my heart!

A great love song is Aerosmith's new song "Don't want to miss a thing". So much love pours from it. Wouldn't you like to be the woman that song is for?

From: TK

Love songs.

The most beautiful love songs are rarely recognized as such. They are rarely heard. The most beautiful love songs are those which are composed by hearts in love, covered up by confused minds, and silenced by bitten tongues. The most beautiful love songs are silently composed everyday by millions.....unwittingly.

Love songs amount to nothing but a thin thread of what is heard, stretched over a vast ocean of what falls on deaf ears.

Keeping in line with the best love song ever.. I whole heartedly agree with TK, often what is the best one is something composed often, heard by few,and always with heart. The ideal love song is the one that reaches each of our hearts, brings something to the surface, and emotion, a memory, a moment.

For The First Time Kenny Loggins (One Fine Day Soundtrack)

Are those your eyes?
Is that your smile?
I've been looking at your forever
But I never saw you before
Are these your hands holding mine
Now I wonder how I could have been so blind
For the first time
I am looking in your eyes
For the First time I'm seeing who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When your looking back at me
Now I understand what love is
Love is... for the first time.
Can this be real?
Can this be true?
Am I the person I was this morning
and are you still the same you
It's all so strange
How can it be?
All along this love was right in front of me
For the first time
I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I am seeing who you are
Can't believe how much I see
When your looking back at me
Now I understand what love is
Love is.... for the first time
Such a long time ago
I had given up on finding this emotion
Ever again
But your here with me now
Yes I found you somehow
and I've never been so sure........

Rat Boy, loved the poem. You should submit more.

As far the love song debate, every song means different things to different people. It depends on where you are in your life at the moment you hear the song. In love, out of love....the same song means different things at different times.

Innocent rose,

what's goin on with yah?

All:

I agree with Sweet Angel.. I have heard of that song b4 and I luv it! I don't usually listen to rick but I luv that song by Aerosmith :I don't want to miss a thing..Amazing.

I'd say that one of the best songs ever written was Lately by Jodeci.. and maybe "The one I gave my heart to"by Aaliyah.

I was right! I was looking at the new submissions page and saw some of TK's poems..hmm.. They are the same poems in lovestories.com..

Welcome back Tony.. sorry to blow your cover. I know you have a lot of fans and people out there that are supporting you. Hopefully all the drama as ebbed and things are back to normal. If there is such a thing ;)

It's good to see you writing again. I would hate to see one of best poets I have ever seen disappear like that.

Okay, okay. You got me!
I had to take a little break (for reasons obvious to some). Just thought I'd keep a little lower profile so as not to draw too much attention/drama. Hopefully, from this point forward, we can keep things focused on just poetry. ;)

Try Spyder's Empire at <http://www.spydersempire.com/poetry.htm>

It's quite a large site, however, the page is incredible...
Writers can get feedback on their work right on the page.

But still, not as homey and cozy as the Blender. ;)

I don't recall who it was earlier who asked for sites of strong role models... but I've found a site that brought that request to my mind.

<http://www.spydersempire.com/empirezine/spotlight/published/april/maya1.htm>

This page is a feature article on Maya Angelou, a poet, historian, author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist, producer and director. There are links to more about Dr. Angelou... I hope you find her story and her contributions as inspiring as I have.

Infamous/Undeniably/Absolut TK,

We are still watching you and your lame poetry. I guess
you have not changed your materialistic writing style
(based on the contents of your new poems). There is no
reason for us to stop laughing at you.

You are "Infamous" for your large, shiny forehead. You are
"Undeniably" narcicistic. What does the "Absolut" stand
for? You must be drunk on yourself.

hi everyone!
really enjoy reading the work here at the Blender...been watching for a while, just kicking back. I was hoping that some of you might be willing to give me a little advice. I have a love problem. (shocking, huh?) The problem being that I am in love. I think. I say I think because most of the time I am, yet there are times I wonder. Most of my uncertainty revolves around the lack of romance and passion in my relationship. My love is a pretty practical type of guy, not prone to effusive amounts of affection and thoughtfullness. I thought that this was a silly thing to worry about, perhaps a bit shallow? Yet I find myself really wishing that just once, he would put forth a special effort for me. Am I being silly? Is it worth risking love for something superficial? Please help a confused girl....

From: Droopy Eyelids

janelle,

If you think Tony could kick my butt then you have no idea
how scrawny he is. He has a girl's build. Even you could
kick his butt.

Sigh. At what point should I start exercising more editorial control on the comments page?

I too have been sitting back and watching this "saga" unfold before all of our eyes. It would seem to me the easiest way to end this nonsense, is to simply not comment on it any further. I believe that the person under attack here has appreciated those that have stood up to remark, comment on their behalf, and has excused and or ignored any further inflammatory comments by others. I would suggest we do the same. When we fail to take the bait of their words, then there is no fuel to further the fire.

Words as we all know are powerful tools, but only when we give ourselves to them.

May I suggest another topic to discuss? What is your idea of Romance and how important is it to you and your heart within a relationship?

Hoping all your hearts desires are soon realized....

Hey everyone.
I've been reading the drama that has been playing out again over Tony. I am asking you; Droopy Eyelids, Janelle, and Kelli, please start emailing each other. I like to read people's comments on Blender Board. I've loved the discussion on favorite love songs and all. Please start emailing each other and leave such comments off the board. I would like to appologize to everyone for this.

Merlyn,
Hey. Love is never a problem. At least I like to hope so. I don't really have much advise to offer you. The one question I have is are you happy? That is what love is. Each person shows their love their own ways. I know that probably sounds cliche but it's true. Just look closely at him and the way you feel about him. I know this probably isn't much help. Good luck

Merlyn,

Snow's right.. See, snow? I told u that you had a way with words..
Merlyn.. look at the little things.. He might not show his love by bringing you flowers and writing magnificent poetry but by listening to your problems and supporting you when things are rough just shows that he cares.. :)

To everyone:

Sorry about that little thing with Droopy something or other.. I won't lower myself to his/her level anymore ;)

Romance is doing whatever you can to make the other half of your heart (if you don't know what that means just ask Janelle) feel as special, safe, loved, and complete as possible. It's when you make them feel like they are the world to you. And both you and her (i'm using the girl pronoun because I'm a guy:)) know that it is true. That she is the world to you. Romance is being there with a box of flowers, a bouque of chocolate, or just being there yourself when the other half of your heart needs you. Of course romance is like beauty, measured in the eye of the beholder. Other people's views on romance might just be holding your hand, or just being there. Each person has a different view on romance. And each view is right. No one is wrong.

Snow,

You go boy!

Everyone has a soul mate.. I believe that God gave 2 people one heart to share.. He seperated them and sent them to live on Earth, each living different lives. Then those 2 people have to find each other to make their half of a heart complete..

-Janelle

I disagree. Love is everyewhere. A spark of posibility exists between almost everyone, but it does take something special to make it really work. A soulmate is the result of work as well as fate.

From: Christine cj@spyral.net
Date: 17 July 1998

Romance... the creative, imaginative, heartfelt emotions, thoughts and actions, the ways in which we converse with the heart closest to our own the many ways he touches my heart, my world, how he creeps into my thoughts, offers colors and beauty to my world. Romance is the laughter, the passion, the love, the playful, the soft and quiet moments, that are a part of my everyday world with him. The unrepeatable moments, the silent conversation of a slow dance and or a slow kiss, the joy in the thought of him, the feel of his hand in mine and the overwhelming acceptance, and appreciation for all he is to me and with me, and all I am with him. How important is it to my heart? It is everything,it is simply the only way I know to be.
Living my life with Love, Laughter and Passion and sharing it all with him, because he exists in my world.

I agree with snow, in the thought there is no right or wrong about romance, it is to each of us something different, and fits perfectly for each heart. It is often the thing that leads us to do and say the things we do in order to convey to the one we love all the he/she is, has been, ever will be, and how generous a gift his/her heart truly is.

I Clearly See by R Hammans

She doesn’t think she’s pretty,
that she is quite plain.
I tell her, " No you’re beautiful,
and every time I see you I fall
in love again.

She thinks her voice sounds funny,
she says it’s like a child’s.
I tell her I think it’s sexy and every
time I hear it, my passions they do go wild.

She says her eyes are such a strange hue
The color is hard to discern.
I say that makes them magical and to be lost
in them I yearn.

She says she’s not a young woman. Her
hair is no longer dark. She knows little about
love and she’s not sure how to give her heart.

I run my fingers through her hair and tell
her I do not care if your hair is no longer
dark and we’ll learn about love together.
I know you’ll do your part.

She says, " I’ll try your patience. Sometimes
I can obsess." I just smile and say, " No…I never
would have guessed."

She looks into my eyes and smiles, then snuggles
into my arms. She says, "You must be quite blind
and mad to think you love me so. I’m afraid one day
you will clearly see and then you will go."

I kiss her forehead, my smile pressed into her
white hair and say, "I may not be sane, I never claimed
to be but," I whisper, "For the first time in my life….
I clearly see."

Just rediscovered the BB board here.. anyways, thanks to Crickett for the comment about my piece! I'm wondering what other people think of "The Caramels"?

To Rudy- I know how you feel; I think it's sad that many female friends of mine are in that predicament after a breakup whereas their ex-male-components just live it off after about a week. But.. that's probably not too helpful too hear, is it? *g* Anyways, I think it's a matter of having support & lotsa company (lotsa love, friendship, family, blah blah blah) at first, and then ultimately time will be the panacea to cure all your wounds. You'll meet other people! He's *not* the only one!

Just remembered a great romantic quote/paraphrase-

Barbara Streisand & her beau are spooning ("cuddling like spoons" in case any misunderstands ;p) in bed, half-asleep in that drowsy dreamy sort of state, and her beau says, "Barbara, I don't want to fall asleep..."
"Why?" She sleepily asks.
"Because I'll miss you..."

Isn't that sweet? I'm a sucker for romance like that. Unfortunately that kind of thing seems to only happen to *other people* *g*.

Another great real-life story- a young boy was in a concentration camp decades ago, and one day he was walking around, and saw this girl from across the metal fence. There was something attractive about the girl, so he, this tall thin boy by now, walked over to her. She had an apple so she tossed it over the fence to him. And every day after that she would come by and toss another apple over to him until one day when he told her not to come anymore. "Why?" She wondered. He replied that he was being shipped off to another camp. So the little boy and the little girl parted ways...

The war was over, and the man emigrated to the United States. Some time later, his friend set him up on a blind date. So he went along, met the woman, and liked her. They got along to talking about their pasts, and the woman said that years ago, she used to bring apples to a little boy in a concentration camp... he realized that this was the girl from so long ago, and exclaimed- "I was that boy!" He proposed right that night because, as he put it- "I was never going to let her go again." They've been married ever since and are not growing old together happily.
