Road

The road of life was looking pretty bleak.
All of the signs said "DEAD END" or "NOT A THROUGH STREET".
That was just the way that my passenger liked it.
She wanted to go slow and easy around the goddam cul-de-sac.
"Fuck this!" I said as I crashed through the window
that has been calling for me but didn't know my name.
I shook my head with disbelief;
the dead end was now a plethora of choices.
I felt my horsepower increase,
the auto tranny turned into a six speed.
I hit the power locks and popped the passenger door open.
With a not so gentle push and an "adieu",
I slammed the pedal through the friggin metal.
With a quick look over my shoulder,
I saw the rapidly shrinking former possessor of my heart
limping back to the other side.
The shape of the rear-view mirror changed with that of my lips.
Happy to look forward and no regrets looking back.
