Ebony Angel

(dedicated to Lyn, who I will always love)

We were two souls drifting in the night
who met head-on with such force as to
bring us together for a brief moment in time

I spoke of love, and how I was content with my life
While you questioned my sincerity and pressed me for the truth
I proclaimed my faith in God and angels
While in your pain, you questioned the existence of God

Our two inquisitive souls soon became enmeshed
in a love-at-first-sight relationship
that seemed to be made in heaven

Love grew quickly ... and then my guilt set in ...

While I hid in the shadows of this new-found illicit joy
You pondered your long-term role in my life
When I asked you how my love life could be improved
You unselfishly provided the magic elixer that re-ignited
my passion for my wife

                          How ironic is life
                       when one faithless soul
turns out to be an angel
sent by God to save the other

You saved my life and my marriage and for that I am grateful
But I did not intend to end our friendship before returning the favor
Please accept my apology and allow me to help you as you have helped me

                         Let me be your angel!
