lipstick backlash

i saw her tonight
'neath the pulsating lights
that made her seem bigger than life
she walked up to me
like a bird with no bee
and asked me if i had a wife

i misunderstood her question
the beer had affected my brain

she walked straight away
i had nothing to say
thought that i'd never see her again

within five minutes flat
she tapped on my back
and handed me a cigarette
i couldn't quite tell
if she was and angel
or just another nymph-ette

she looked at me with suggestion
i told her that my name was tim

she said "no it's not"
i said "so what?
i'll prob'ly never see you again"

she asked what i did
i asked "when? when i was a kid?"
she said "no now that you're a man"
i said "same old thing
i buy diamond rings
and try to fit them to girls' hands"

she laughed as she took off her wedding band
i told her that it was a sin

she said "don't forget
we ain't done nothing yet
and i prob'ly won't see you again"

i said "don't get cute
and don't try to recruit
me into this kind of game"
she said "sorry jack
when my husband gets back
whether we do or we don't, you'll be blamed"

entrapped within under ten minutes
how did this ever begin?

i needed something quick
reached up my sleeve for a trick
so that i'd never see her again

i said "what the heck"
and nibbled her neck
and whispered into her ear
she giggled and smiled
overwhelmed by my style
i said "we must discuss this, dear

you see, i charge by the hour
if you want, i can charge it to him"

"you disgust me" she yelled
left with a "go to hell"
but, i'm sure i'll never see her again
