megaphone

there's a cost to love i know
beyond a dollar or minute
there's no change you get once spent
and you can never relive it

i've lost my sense of self
if i'm a saint or sinner
i can't be sure
i have tried too hard to win her

when all it takes
is a lack of faking
and the love you show is always in
the love you're making

and all it takes
is a hug when the winds are blowing
a patient smile even though
all her fangs are showing

and love is simply
like no other thing
i can't compare to the joy
or sorrow it brings

to put to words i leave for
the poets and singers
i'm just a guy
with a heart and restless fingers

and i know i've done my best
and i don't mean to be bitter
it's just hard to love her now
but, it's harder to quit her

i know she's got her man
and i'm a past-tense project
and it's easier for her
than for me just to forget

but, such is love
