You Showed Me The World In A Mountain

You showed me the world in a mountain
You gently took my hand and led me up
its rocky sides, thru deep crevasses
And each step was daring and fun
You lovingly and carefully placed my hands and feet
for an appropriate and safe ascent
You pointed out the many miracles along the way:
baby ospreys in their lofty nest
patches of wildflowers nestled in the mountainside
the past embedded in timeless rock
And you and I became one with this mountain,
everything we were seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting here
would forever reek of that
When I became weak, you rested with me
and gave me a cooling sip of water
But, then you urged me on...you had much for me to see
Here with you, I saw colors I had never before seen
and everything was grander than I had believed
I did not see just a blue-purple mountain and a fiery-orange sky,
I saw a BLUE-PURPLE mountain and a FIERY-ORANGE sky
I saw heaven once or twice
and angels whistled in the breeze that flowed my hair
You kissed me like that breeze
I didn't want to go from here
You feed me berries and yourself
(enough to sustain me 'til I reached the peak)
Once ascended, you held me like the mountain and raised my arms
with yours to touch the sky (which now was crystal blue)
You pointed down our path and everything seemed small and cruel
Then you took me by the hand and led me to the edge
for the most spectacular view of all
You showed me a world I had never quite saw
and I inhaled it like the wind
We stood there arm and arm (with nowhere else to go)
trying hard to retrace the steps we took ,in our minds:
  wanting exhilaration
  being calm
And then I felt your hand on my back...pushing me
and as I felt myself falling, I sensed a strange balance
and then wondered,
"Had it been worth it all?"
...and I knew it was
