fandango express

her smiles were confusing
she was using them to catch my eye
she was alone with her man by her side
i was two steps behind her
admiring the flow of her hair
trying hard not to stare
as our eyes collided,
she was hiding the lines on her face
inviting me softly to join in the chase
i reached into my pocket
pulled out a ten dollar bill
reaffirming my will
made my way through the crowd to the bar
brushed up against her
leaned over her shoulder
so close, i could feel her heat
she was seated and staring ahead
poised, but nervous from thoughts in her head
her man caught on to it
marked her as his with a kiss
took hold of her hand
her face turned quite red in admission
her mission was foiled
she recoiled from his grasp
he warned her with gestures and posture
that he wasn't so stupid
i thought to myself, "man...take it up with cupid"
she rolled her eyes at me
as if she had heard what i thought
i raised my eyebrows
she bit her lip
he did a shot
he grabbed hold of her arm
said that it was time to go
she resisted his pull, but was overpowered
i moved out of the way
her free arm wound 'round my waist
she told him she wanted to stay
he ignored her and pulled
drawing the stares of the bar
her nails dug into me
her eyes welled with tears
my shirt tore with parting
i whispered to her
"you don't know how lovely you are"
