run

In the midst of stoplights and club fronts
sidewalks and seedy men
she runs
past yellow taxi cabs on yellow lined streets
past pawnshops and ugly strip joints
her hair in a dishevled heap on her head
lipstick smeared bright red
a ripped dress hangs inadvertently from her thin bony hips
running away from the pain
running away from his name
it is summer
only the amenities of summer for her ended 3 years ago
