my last comments of 1998...

First to my friends, both here, and those who come here to read my writings...
I have met some truly wonderful people this year whom I would never have met without the existence of the Blender... And so, first, to

Kirk-
Any words here or anywhere would be an enfeebled attempt to express the gratitude I feel toward you for your creation and maintenance of this wonderful haven on the Web. Many have come and gone, but you hve remained a constant. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us all this place to share ourselves with each other...

Isolde-
Thank you for sharing in so many ways...

Angel, heartSong-
Thank you for the teasing and the opportunity to get to know you both...

Shady-
Thank you for the kindness and trust...

Eve-
Thanks for "texturizing", and your incredible insight...

deevaa-
Thank you for the opportunity to have you brighten our lives with your vibrant art!

<sigh>
I am SORELY sorry to see ZoE go...
and I hope that Marla comes back...

And to those of you who have written to me with comment or question, thank you ALL for letting me know that the few kernals of truth I sometimes am lucky enough to discover have meant something more than just being a few words strung together in an artful manner.

To everyone-
I wish a wonderful 1999, filled with as much of the experience of loving and being loved as possible...

-K

p.s.-
before the year is through-
Snow-
You were here when I first came to the Blender, and I have often wondered where you went. Gentle friend, write for YOURSELF first... the rest will take care of itself...

Thank you kevin. I think I've found most of myself again. Though I'm still looking for my self. Maybe I'll find it in the new year.

The January Blender is up, first of 1999.
Man, it's weird typing three of the same digit in a row for the year. And to think, we'll get to do it two years in a row-- most generations have to wait 111 years! And think of the people living in 2222! (Sorry, it's 2AM, I've spent the entire day alternating between Blending the Digest and Zelda on the Nintendo 64, so my a thoughts are a little scrambled.
Anyway, enjoy the Digest. And go see "Shakespeare in Love", it's a great flick (reviewed this month, along with "You've Got Mail")

(okay, I am not in the back of the room any more)

On the January issue-

Congratulations to Isolde, who truly IS the Goddess of Haiku...

and to Kirk, thanks once again for your efforts in the shepherding of this site. As for your Monthly Ramble...

I think that not only do we carry around the emotional scars of every single meaningful relationship, but those from our current involvements as well. The one thing you wrote that hit the bulls eye is that scars DO have a beauty of their own. That is most certainly true of the real poets among us, for some of the most beautiful poetry, be it poignant or otherwise, springs from the clear and simple beauty of those scars, even fresh ones.

Particularly when those we love NOW do or say (or type) things that hurt us, or delay the provision of their attentions or expressions of love for us. When you REALLY love someone, making yourself COMPLETELY vulnerable to them, you WILL get hurt. It is inevitable, as inherently imperfect creatures, we sometimes make blunders of the heart. Other times, our lovers don't exactly respond to OUR romantic or amorous attentions as we hope (or expect). But that too is inevitable. It is also necessary for growth. Our own personal growth, and the growth of our romantic relationships. If love is not tested, it cannot be proven true. You also have to take the sorrow of love and accept its pain in order to experience its joy and the bliss of being loved. So wear the scars proudly. They prove you are not afraid to love...

To the rest of the "regs" it's been a pleasure reading your material as i scroll thru the back issues of the digest. Kirk,

I was just browsing throught the "Blend-o-matic" and i was wondering if there is any chance of some sort of organization there? It gets kind of fustrating when you get the same quote 3 times in a row or go throught the same 8 quotes twice over before hitting a new one. I was just wondering because i remember a quote i really like (i believe it was one of yours) and i can't seem to find it. Do you ever go through and take quotes out?

Right now the Blend-O-Matic is set to random. And it hasn't been updated in far too long. So on my todo list is getting more quotes in, and then an option to go through *every* dang quote, one at a time.

Re: My decision to make a seperate "X" section in the Digest

I wanted to make sure that no one got my wrong impression about the warning/seperation of X's work in this month's Heart on Sleeve corner. It's not supposed to be anything like moving of Mobius Analcake's stuff to a seperate page, and only a little bit like the warning I gave "What I'll Do To You!" in the November issue. It is, however, a lot like my decision in last February's issue to give some of the more copious writers their own little sections.

I like X's work, and am glad about the experimenting with sensual content it inspired. And maybe this was me after a too long day of assembling the Digest, but it seemed like I was seeing a *large* amount of poems with very similar theme. Also, the works seemed to be a little steamier than in previous months. That combination led me to the the creation of a seperate section that month-- as a way of letting those people so faint-of-heart that they'd rather avoid this work do so(to their loss), and to let someone who really like this work go straight to it.

Anyways, I might reword the notice at the top of the page (incidently, the fact that there was a note with a link at the top of the page indicated that I hoped people might follow it.)

Happy New Year all! With all the travels and house guests, I popped in for a day then popped back out, and have fallen way out of the loop. I notice many new names and am anxious to catch up on all the new submissions. I've browsed a few so far and...

kudos to Kevin - get first submission of the year with "Tragedy"

Tristan - the three for Isodole are very visual. Love them all.

And n/a, "The Love" nearly brought me to tears. That's a difficult feeling to capture and you really did it.

And finally I want to say thanks to Kirk. Isodole is of course of the true haiku queen, but I sincerely appreciate you recognizing me. Thanks.

I was cleaning out my book-case,
like I once cleaned my heart.
I came accross your picture,
and it caused memories to start.

Memories, not feelings...
for you, my heart's asleep.
The giant fist that clutched it once,
released the hurt so deep.

It's been a while since then,
I'm over you by now.I had forgotten how.

I'll put your picture back in place,
between the pages of my mind,
I had to learn to trust again,

And forever leave you as you once left me,
so very far behind.

Congratulations to all those whose works were selected for the cover of the January Blender of Love Digest!

Kirk-
Thank you for selecting my poem "Branded" for the front cover. Thanks also for selecting my New Year's Eve tribute to Tristan, Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You". It is a beautiful song, and has great meaning for Tristan and I, so seeing it on the front cover is very touching (I happen to be a musician, and I once sent him a tape of me singing... and that was one of the songs on it).

I have always liked Joni, and you might want to go out and buy yourself a best of Joni Mitchell CD, Kirk, since you seem to like her also... you have had her lyrics on the digest cover two months in a row now! The piece that was posted last month as: A Simple Expression By Dan Taylor, Submitted by Heart4One is actually the title of (and a line from) another Joni Mitchell song "You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio" (copyright Joni Mitchell, 1972, from the album For The Roses). It's nice to see that Joni's work still has staying power after all these years.

Best Wishes-

Kirk, I loved the ramble this month, I have been there and
now have the same scar, although I think of it as a "hot button" that gets pushed every time I wait for someone to call or e-mail- I get all paranoid and freaked out when I don't get called/e-mailed back SOON. My summer crush didn't call me back and well, that ended that. And I've just spent the last few days all antsy 'cause I hadn't heard from the guy I'm dating...but well, I've got a date tomorrow, so I guess it's ending happily for now.
Anyway, thanks. You did a good job.

Humor is the tonic that every aching heart needs from time to time (catharsis is not always very much fun, hence the saying that laughter is the BEST medicine)... And laughter is very much a part of romance as well. You simply must be able to share some light moments with the ones you love...

<sigh>

Isolde,
I am so very grateful that you have shared Tristan's recent work with us. Thank you. It is all incredibly moving. But in particular, "You" wonderfully captures a feeling I have always had, but knew not its perfect expression. This poem was IT...

Wow. The sites getting on the order of 1000 front page hits a day lately. Wonder if it's the run up to Valentine's Day?

Kevin, I haven't yet fixed the return problem for regular submissions. I put it of before trying to make sure that I had the right idea on the comments page. I think I finally do have it. I'll have two options: the default will be like the comment page is now, where it keeps track of where you physically press return, but then relies on normal HTML word-wrapping. (I might do something so that Tabs and multiple spaces are preserved in HTML as well.) The other option will be as it is now, with the poem slipped into <PRE> boxes. This lets poems that depend on critical spacing (e.g. word art) to still look ok.

Fellow Blenderers,

Greetings from France, where we envy the cold weather you're having in the States. Maybe you can't imagine it, but in the "dead of winter", a person in Northern Europe shouldn't have to wake up to a balmy, 15o (sorry, 60o F) day. It's just unnatural. And, as someone mentioned here earlier and as I've always believed, the cold can be a remarkable aphrodisiac.

France (in case you've forgotten) is the place where Public Displays of Affection are acceptable, and couples don't have to apologise for smooching in the middle of a pedestrian thoroughfare ("Where do you think you are, Paris?").

It's also the place where our Western Love basically got started. (By `Western' I don't mean the kind in which we flip our pickup trucks because there's a tear in our beer.) Love was so impersonal in the ancient world, so collective and familial. Marriage partners were often picked for such romantic notions as proximity or how much land they'd inherit. Doesn't give you goosebumps? Suddenly, in 12th-century France (or thereabouts), along came the troubadour poets, Marie de France, Chrestien de Troyes, and so on, weaving magnificent tales about partners, 1 + 1, who adored each other passionately, sometimes to the point of death.

This is where we first heard of Guenievre & Lancelot, Abélard & Héloïse, and Tristan & Iseult (the selfsame!) who took their first swallow of Lovedrink long before the Germans ever heard about them. And countless other couples that taught us what romance was. And usually, it was being in love despite a pile of reasons not to.

I'm over here trying to figure out how it works and, more often than not, why it doesn't. How can a seemingly great relationship just dissolve for practical reasons? Does noone believe in taking risks anymore? And what are the ingredients for the perfect relationship, the One that Sticks?

Anyway, I'm not a poet, but am trying to write a novella based on the last one that didn't work out. A snippet of it is in the new submissions page (under the silly name "Bailamos mucho", made up for the occasion). If someone has a half hour to kill, I'd appreciate their telling me whether it stinks or whether it has potential, and whatever else comes to mind.

Meantime, if anyone has already gone own their own chivalrous Quête and found the answers to the above questions, please share them with us.

Yours,
Derek Eretz

Friends!

Across a table while reading a book
I see her
With green eyes
But not really her’s
Sunglasses for the person she wants to be
The thing she’s hiding behind
To cover the sadness
And the hurt and the pain
Knowing she should be somewhere else
But not sure how to get there
And here I am
Across the table
We look, we talk, we laugh, I cry
I cry for the person I want her to be
The person who becomes what I want
And the person I give up as a result
Give up like a sacrifice

Because I’m not worthy
She’s perfect
Perfect in all her flaws

And now it’s too late
Happiness has moved on
Stop the clock
Turn off the music
It doesn’t belong in my house

Damn the gods
Damn that altar
Damn it all to hell!
I gave up too early
I gave up too soon
I should’ve tried harder

When I look in your eyes a smile comes to your face. That smile is a thing I could never Replace. The flame in your heart has now Begun, This is the begining of all our fun. This seems like a Feeling real sent from up above. I'm fealing weak I think I'm in Love. The feelings we havejust aren't the same I feel like a GOD just say'n your name Is this Love? Is this for real? I cannot explain what it is that I feel I look at your now and I know I've been Blesed. To me you Look Better than all the rest. Your Look is that Not matched by a Rose. I'm here deevaa! Just being unusually quiet. I'm having a complicated life at the moment (which also explains the reduction in my poetry submissions), but I am currently in the midst of reading through the entire new submissions page as therapy, so I'm sure I'll be my usual noisy, opinionated, comment-filled self in the very near future.

Just finished reading the entire new submissions page for January (guess I was a bit behind...lol). There were many excellent pieces, and it was nice to see so many new contributors. I apologize for the length of this post (but that's what happens when I get behind!). Here are some of the pieces I was most struck by:

heartSong-
"A Long Ago Love" - Beautiful & evocative, I could picture the old couple from the photo.
"Untitled" - I loved this one! A brilliant metaphor and an image that certainly strikes a deep chord in the heart of this poet...

strawberryjelly-
"Moroccan Roses" - A poignant vignette, beautifully rendered. I particularly liked the "dark path" imagery...it captured the dilemma of this type of situation very well.

Mario Esposito-
"Opera" - My Italian isn't strong enough to have grasped this poem in it's entirety, but the portions I did get were beautiful, and I loved the feel of these words on my tongue as I read it aloud. Would you consider posting the English translation of this piece?

KatyBeth-
"In my days by your side" - A good thumbnail sketch of the metamorphosis of a relationship. Very moving.
"Fool Was I" - Quite striking. My favorite of all your poems thus far.

Saint Exupery-
"definitions" - Thank you, Kate, for posting these beautiful and timeless words.

"me"-
"Chapter 13" - I particularly liked the first and last stanzas.

Evalani-
"Passions Ascent" - Nicely done!

Prince Ali-
"Secret Dreams" - Sweet and well written.

Jenn-
"aftermath" - Very nice. A well expressed sentiment and image. An excellent effort at a rhymed and metered poem.
"turmoil" - Liked the line "...you jail me with desire..."
"on being a mistress" - Well written (but sad)
"stolen moments" - Captures the essence of this particular situation well.

Angel-
"I'll be seeing you..." - A very beautiful and hope filled poem, which uses the newness of spring theme very well. I will save this one to refresh myself with when I am feeling down.

deevaa-
"Let my heart have wings" - Sweet and romantic (and pretty on the page)
"into the depths" - Very passionate!
"wanting" - Quite nicely done. I can definitely identify with this poem!!
"love letter" - Um...did I miss something? I hope there is an e-mail on it's way to me...

Kevin-
"Candy for my heart" - Short and sweet! (no pun intended)(well, maybe a little pun)
"Deep" - Beautiful and moving. Talk about the arrow of a poem hitting the mark...this one certainly applies to my life lately.
"Flatline" - An unusually dark piece for you...did I miss something?
"Her hands" - Wow! This piece is romantic, beautiful, poignant, sweet, heartfelt...sigh...

Just my two (or more) cents worth-

From: Isolde

Everyone has been very busy this past week! Once again (for what it's worth), here is my two cents:

Jenn-
"what she's got" - Good poem, fantastic closing line, expresses perfectly that sentiment which I think we have all felt at one time or another.
"lifted up" - Well done, and so very true.

chichbug-
"Transparency" - Very moving. The last stanza is stunning.

Elizabeth-
"When I close my eyes" - Nice poem on a topic near and dear to my heart.

Jewgee-
"Like a Moth to a Flame" - Well written using an interesting poetic device (the alternating lines). Liked the repetition at the beginning and the end.

heartSong-
"Of Love" - Very sweet

Angel-
"Quandary" - I liked this piece. A theme close to my heart.
"Sin" - Clever and cute, and the visual layout was nice.
"Blessed Curse" - A good description of the heart at war with itself.
"You are the artist..." - A very vivid image.

Kevin-
"breathless again" - Beautiful, especially the final line.
"Download" - Continues on the theme quite nicely...
"Sonnet - 15 Jan," - Nicely done and a touching sentiment.
"DEEP" - This poem touches me deeply.
"Another New Year" - A good representation about the confusions of love and life.
"Tub" - Sad and true, how easily the words of those we love can wound us. Excellent imagery.

William-
I loved all three of your poems. Each was exceptionally well written, but I had to comment specifically on:
"My Muse" - Beautiful and very moving. I loved the line "...That I my very soul in you confide, Each time I pen a sonnet such as this...". I believe someone here at the Blender commented recently that one of the highest compliments one poet could pay another was to wish that they themself had written the words they so admire. I thus pay you this compliment. I hope we see many more submissions of your work.

I would also like to thank all those who have taken the time to comment on my recent work, and most especially those who have been there to support me emotionally during this difficult time I am going through. It means a great deal to me.

As always,
Isolde

WOW - I have to that you all so very much... I have been so inspired by the poetry on this page that I have started "really" painting again... (the last few months it has only been little bits ... nothing major) but ... now..
I am working on something inspired by X's "Union" you sould see it.. it is only half done.. but.. I gotta say it is going to be good. (crossing her fingers and hoping not to jinx it)

Jenn - Skin really hit that feeling on the head.. the feeling of wanting to be "inside" someone...
- In your suitcase... I know someone that said something very similar when his wife left.. he told me that she took his smile in her handbag...
- Coffee.... I have always wished for mornings like that... to have coffee brought in and snuggle up... ahhh..

X - Worship... bring a girl to her knees why don't you? hmmm? My paintbrush is twitching already!!! and bluelight... I just hope I have enough blue paint...

Shady.. where the hell are you.. and go check your email girl..

Kev... *smiles* thanks for those poems... although that painting got put aside for abit.. while I paint flames... *giggles*

I wanted to say that I like most of the poetry here a lot. I used to just read the main page but now I read the heartsleeve stuff too. But I was confused about something in January. One of the poems on the main page had a comment with it about how to pronounce the word *desire*. I didn't understand what the comment meant at first, but when I looked up what strict haiku was, it seemed like the comment was kind of an insult to people from Texas, because we think *desire* only has two syllables. So I looked the word up in a dictionary, and the pronunciation guide in the dictionary said it only has two syllables. How many syllables do you people think it has?

(whispering from the back of the room again)

Hello Everyone...
I do check the Board every day (at least 3-4 times *sheepishly shrugs*)... Can't believe I haven't said anything since LAST Monday...

Dee-
monarchs of E mail? naaaaaaaah... (as long as you are happy, dear, luv the hair!) I whole-heartedly agree with you. I am happy not only to know you are painting, but that you share my affinity for the work of "X" -* wow *- isn't that work GREAT?!?!?! I LOVED writing poems for your paintings! Those poems are my gifts to you...

Kirk-
I was most pleased to see you temper your words regarding the works of "X", by the way. The body of these poems are most decidedly NOT deserving of a "warning" label you had originally placed there at the first of the month (this smacked too much of "Parent Advisory" stickers on the CDs at the local music outlet, which **really** BOTHERED me >:-( , as an 'artist'). The works of "X" encompass an integral part of TRUE romantic love that has *not* been treated with the proper respect oft-times around here in the past.

Angel, Jenn, Isolde, Jewgee-
Thank you very much for your kind words, particularly with regard to "Tub." The imagery just kind of popped into my head, and it latched itself onto a feeling I have had for quite some time. Words DO wound...

one comment about a poem...

Isolde-
Your poem "Pavlovian" struck so deeply within me that it nearly took my breath away... The response you describe runs far deeper than simply the ringing of a bell or a knocking at the door (or in my particular case, there is a feature in ICQ that will audibly voice "user is online"). I remember when hearing those three words out of my computer's speakers (a sound I have not heard for over a month now from that special someone) how my heart would LEAP headlong into my throat, THE SAME feeling as if I were seeing the object of my affection in the flesh. Much more than simply a physical Pavlovian behavioral response...

<sigh>

Thank you for sharing...

Mike:
Interesting. You're right, the dictionary lists it as 2 syllables, but I've always heard a sharp enough bend in that "second" syllable to make it three. Dee - Zie - Er (same strutures as Tee - Die - Fer) I don't understand why the word "liar" has two syllables but "desire" has three- living in New York, Ohio, and New England, they both sound the same. Maybe I'll ask about it on the newsgroup alt.usage.english.

K:
Regarding the descriptor of X's work-- I caught some flak before for not having any kind of similar descriptor on my "Love Bite" stories on the main prose page. The difference between that kind of notice and the "Parental Advisory" is who it's aimed at. Most buyers of that CD know what they're getting into, but a third party (the parent) might not. The notice on the page is so the reader knows what to expect. I used the word "warned" (aimed explicetly at the "faint of heart") at first, but it was more of a notice than a warning.

Hey hey hey all - It is Friday here and I couldn't be happier!! (that is Friday.. I mean.)

Isolde -
Talisman... *smiles* It must be nice to have a little piece of him... I believe that each of my paintings is a little piece of my heart (which is why it is so hard for me to sell them... how can I put a price on my heart...)
Simple Math also - so eloquent (oh... spelling?) I love the images that you can place in my head with just a few words.

Kevin -
*Curtsy's to her king* Morning my Royal Highness... Body Language... ohhh, *winks* you know I would like to see more here...

Jewgee - (hoping I have that spelt right)
I LOVED Take me... I was giggling and gasping at the same time..

Well.. time for the deevaa to get back to work... oh, - the remarks about the pronunciation issue, now when I read that Kirk - (not being in the states mind you...) I read your statement as light hearted joke.. and as for the "X" files ... you know I am not one of "those of the faint of heart" But, I think it is great that they all be together, and any warning is fair... as for your prose, I actually was reading some of it the other day... and man... WOW.... (not gonna say a word more...*blushes* I liked the one about the popsicles... )
You do a great job Kirk.. not a single word of criticism could ever pass my lips about the job you do here...

take care of your hearts..

I'm sorry I have been absent for so long!!! Things have been wildly busy, and I have not had much of time, least of all time to get into the Blender...:-( Nor time to write unfortunately. I have good and bad news...the good is I am happy and things are going very well, and the bad is that that affects my writing, ALOT, so I have not written in well over a month.

I just wanted to drop in and say hi to everyone...

Kev, Angel, I talk to you all everyday now...thanks to ICQ...:-) If any of you would like to get in touch with me, my nickname is, of course, Shadygirl. I forget the number, it's 2884____ something...

Dee - remember girl, I'm here...

Misti?!?! Where are you girl? Do you have e-mail? If so, please e me! I've been thinking about ya, and wondering how u've been...!

heart - I ICQed you, but I guess you haven't been on ICQ in the past couple of days. I got your Badtimes email...hehe...very cute...:-) write me!!

Marla, Romeo, Isolde, X, erin, of course Kirk, and everyone I am forgetting in my haste, I hope everything is well, and I miss you all! Things should die down in about a month or so, I'm praying!!!

Talk to you soon!

Isolde...the Artifact Trilogy...The End..such an amazing
expression of thought and feeling...-so many people change their mind on a dime about who and why they love. I think it would be better if people would stop promising themselves to their partner for the rest of their days, and commit fully to just this moment, right now. No one is able to look ahead and know how we will feel even ten minutes from now. Wow, I really, really liked how you've put into words thoughts that have been running through so many heads and hearts.Perhaps that is why I enjoy writing. Words come much too easy from the mouth, but require energy to flow from the pen.
Eeek, I'm rambling ! Again,Isolde...Excellent!

(standing over in the corner)

deevaa...

heard me cryin' huh?

Isolde-

How could ANY words express the ache I feel after having read your Trilogy? They cannot. How could I convey what is within my heart textually? I sometimes (like now) question whether anything that has EVER existed IN my heart might ever mean enough to last forever, because I feel so naive sometimes for actually BELIEVING in a forever.

I always believed that sincerity, honor, and love were not just letters on a page, electrons on a computer screen, or the vessels of the air we breathe when we move our lips a certain way. Words should always convey more than the diction they supposedly contain. They used to. They used to convey a way of life, now they are often used as reflections of the throw-away culture that preaches transience as opposed to permanence. As a lover of words, I wonder, am I doing nothing more than shouting at the storm? Am I losing it as does King Lear? (Do **I** want to condemn the human race?) Is all my shouting in vain?

Or is my own metaphor for myself more apt? I don't know... Today I question everything...

From: Nescio, il_nescio@hotmail.com

If everything in this world was without any doubt, would life be worth living? Would it make love interesting? Would it be nice to know if someone said: "I love you" and it would be real forever?

From: Isolde
Date: 23 January 1999

A world with no doubts about anything would, indeed, be quite boring, but I don't believe anyone here has suggested that such a world would be desirable. I personally do not think that "doubt" is what makes love "interesting"... unless one is more enamored with the chase and sees love as some kind of game to be played for sport.

And YES, in my opinion it would be nice to know that if a person gave their word of honor, whether it relates to love or friendship or business or any other matter of importance, it would be nice to know that the person giving their word had considered well before they gave it, and that they had every intention of keeping it. Previous generations in Western culture, and even current generations in many other cultures, did not and do not have a problem with the concept of keeping one's word of honor. It is a sad commentary on our own culture that so many in it apparently take this issue so lightly, and fall back instead on the "new" concept of: "Hey, as long as I am happy at this moment, as long as I get what I want, what else matters?"

Finally, someone can say "I love you" without adding the "forever" part. If they don't think they can, or want to make such a weighty promise, they certainly don't have to. I am just bothered by those who choose to voluntarily make such promises, without thinking about what they are really doing and saying. In my opinion, it all comes back to honor.

Isolde~ I don't believe I have ever read a more touching and sadly true depiction of what flippant love can do to the heart, the soul, the mind of the victim of that love ...Your TRILOGY was a banner to this time we now live in: "A throw-away society",as Kevin earlier stated...And it is these times that weigh so heavily on our minds and keep us from venturing too close to this 'love',and by doing this, I am afraid,we keep ourselves from truly experiencing love at all. This is a TRAGEDY in the truest GREEK sense of the word...WE have robbed our hearts blind!!!

i think this poem should be included in this page:

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations that fire shoots off.
I love you as ceratin dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close when I fall asleep.

Thoughts of a Pilot (Off to the Gulf)

I met you when i was half way though
I loved you as soon as I met you
Here we are, happy together
we knew rough waters ahead we must weather
Honor, Courage and Commitment call me off to fly
Please God, be with me, I cannot leave, I cannot die
I don't care if I never take another breath,
but don't give her the pain of my death
So here I am all alone,
flying at thirty thousand feet over the combat zone
If I look ahead al I see is night
but down below is the raging fight
back at home she lies in bed
those awful thoughts run through her head.
The bright red flares lit up the sky
Not, tonight, I would not die
But I've seen those women dreesed in black
the ones that know he's not coming back
Not in a sordid black body bag
but he's in the casket covered by the flag
he fought so brave and loyal too
but all she knows is she'll be alone
I don't want to leave my baby this way
I want to fight, serve, and fly
but I won't leave my baby, I will not die

Isolde - Please don't stop sorting. I don't know who Dan S. is or was to you, but I loved his "Wildflower Eyes". As you inspired it, you must be pretty special.

From: Isolde
Date: 25 January 1999

William - Your comment on "Wildflower Eyes" made me stop and think. When I came across those poems, I felt only bitterness and betrayal at what I saw as the insincerity and guile with which Dan insinuated himself into my heart and my life. I posted those pieces as something of an ironic adjunct to my "Artifact" trilogy. However, your interpretation is a clearly a more positive way to view those old poems. Perhaps if I look closely, and concentrate very hard, I will be able to see the glass as half full (at least as far as these poems are concerned).

From: William insegnanti@yahoo.com
Date: 25 January 1999

Isolde - I don't know anyone who can write such poetry without feeling the emotion. I certainly must be inspired(and I do have a best friend who inspires me constantly). I call them our poems because they would not exist without her. The same thing is true of the poems Dan wrote. They exist because of you. Whatever bad happened in your relationship can not erase the beauty that created those poems.

I wanted to thank those people who have been and continue to be so supportive of me as I go through this painful, bitter, angst-filled, tumultuous and hopefully cathartic time of my life. On the bright side, at least it has awakened me to the fact that I am able to write something other than sweet, romantic haiku and other (mostly) happy little poems. Guess you are all getting to see the other side of me, my ‘heart of darkness’. I don’t think I am quite finished with this phase yet, but I am working on it.

I wanted to personally thank deevaa, Kevin, Angel, William, Kate, heartSong and Jenn for their support, empathy and encouragement, particularly those of you who have spent time (sometimes a considerable amount of time) with me via chat or e-mail.

Angel, thank you so much for sharing “Why Ask This Of Me?”. It is a beautifully written poem, and it certainly strikes a deep chord in my recent life.

Deevaa-

I am humbled (again) that you find my work inspiring to your own artistic expression. There *is* a symbiosis between a picture containing a feeling or mood and the words used to describe the same...

Isolde-
<sigh>.............................
Walking the "Razor's Edge" can slice your heart in two. Although I am admittedly naive about a great many things (I am reminded that Mark Twain - I think - said once that the older he became, the LESS he dicovered he actually knew), walking the edge of that razor is not one of them.
In this poem you pose a most illustrative juxtaposition...
And the question that has been burning within me really *is* whether the fact that I have not become bitter merely a product of a heart that is too trusting and naive. I don't know if there is even an answer. I do know tht the older I get, the less I find that I truly know...

As for your poems, I find many of them incredibly evocative. In particular, I find this imagery in "Pictures and little notes" simply and elegant:

"the words

Nicely done.

The last two lines of "Space/Time" some up what is most important in the cosmos...

Hey everyone, I'm back from the dead. I feel so out of touch and there are so many new names on the blender. I have lots 'o good stuff to submit, but it's a matter of finding the time. I hope everyone is doing well, I will have to catch up with all of you later. We haven't had interent for about a month and a half, simply because there hasn't been time to use it, so why pay for it. I've missed you all.

PS heartsong, I didn't forget about you :-) I've missed you, I just didn't have a way to get in touch with you without e-mail.

Hello... I"m back....though I never left....I tried using stuff under the name Unknown to see if I got any reply's to my work...but I didn't. I got a question for everyone out there. Here's the situation.

I really really really like this one girl. Her boyfriend just dumped her. See... I want her boyfriend to go back out with her, see....she was happy with him. And I want her to be happy, even if she isn't with me. So am I stupid for feeling this way?

I have been busy painting... another piece I am happy with at the moment.. I am hoping on having an exhibiton some time this year... you guys will all have an invite...

Isolde... Chapter and verse... *smiles* so very true... I can't wait each morning to check the blender or my email for the next few pages of your book...

Snow, welcome back... all I have to say is to remember that there is a reason why they broke up in the first place, what is on the suface is not always how a women is feeling, pushing her back to a broken relationship might just end in another broken relationship..

Marla.. you to welcome back, everyone missed ya.

Thats enough from me.. better get back to those brushes.

Devaa

I'm not going to push them back together. I'm giving her time to heal and figure things out for herself. I"m just going to be her friend. I was asking if I was stupid for "WANTING" them to go back together, because when she was with him, she was happy. He broke up with her. I guess I am stupid. For the past three years I've had a crush on her. I think it's stupid for someone to have a crush that long. This is the first time she's ever had a bo, and she was happy. I just want her to be happy..... I guess I am stupid, and I'm rambling....so I'll give everyone a break and shutup :) I feel inspired...I think I'm gonna write something (though I probably won't post it)

I remembered a day
we'd walked in the pond with the swans
in the Golden Gate Park.
How he'd touched my hair
as the birds rose up
and I looked into his eyes.

Dear Angel,

What a treat to be welcomed back...I did not realize that I had been missed or remembered. Thanks to someone like yourself, who knows truth, joy, and love...it is also certainly a joy coming back and reading your works again... :).....Rennie

Dear Jenna,

Thank you, too. I seem to get stopped everytime that I try to write you. Just came on the board to check it out and there was your note....yes, I had something to put up again...thanks...all of you keep me going at times...thinking/feeling. I am being honored in Talk City by some poets in the Poetry Plus (#PoetryPlus) chat room...and, after much sadness, I have a new love........Rennie

Snow... Oh I am sorry, I must have misunderstood your post.. I didn't mean to insult you... I certainly don't think you are stupid for wanting her to be happy.. in fact I admire you for wanting her to be happy rather than just wanting her.. maybe you can make her happier!!

Deevaa,
Don't worry, you didn't insult me :) I do that myself, it's kindof fun actually. But the problem with me making her happy, well....I don't think she thinks so... The way she acts is like I'm just a freind, but she's also been dumped close to 2 weeks ago...So I'm giving her tiem to heal, so I'm just being her friend.... Besides... It feels good to just have a dream, and knowing that it will always be there. I think I lost everyone there? Did I? Oh well...If I did, tell me and I'll expalin... :) Gotta go. Watching the super bowl half time...gloria's on.. Like her..good singer ...lates
