Backseat

Just a few more minutes
before I go out of this taxi
that lights and buildings taking me back home
are becoming familiar and painful to look at
and we prefer sharing stolen kisses behind the driver’s back
who cares if he notices because he doesn’t know that
we’ll meet again in July (not so soon)
and just this midnight before dawn breaks
you traveled 6 hours to meet me 6 am at the bus terminal
to eat a hurried breakfast at Wendy’s and
to escape to another secret Eden
but we were blinded fast enough
by the cold fog covering nature’s spectrum
we decided to leave early to watch movies instead
(maybe to become one with the darkness)
for there is nothing to see
but your palms and arms are too sweaty
your touches are too tight as if to crush my innocence
that my senses were becoming illogical
for me to seriously think about the old man offering us a cottage
for a few bucks
for a few hours
to rest (maybe to burn)
and what if I weren’t modest to say yes
would you say yes too
and if you did
will we not have
to kiss hard and hot to almost lie and ignite here at the cab?
