Audience Lost

I used to write more often
I knew that you would read
The words I put on paper
And see my heart placed there

You understood so well
Too well sometimes it seemed
I couldn’t help but want
    to write
When I knew you

So many words I want to scribe
But you can’t read them anymore
And I’ve found that I don’t want
To tell another

Who do I write to now?
Noone else will understand
Why spill it onto paper
Why pour it from my hand?

Why not keep it in my heart?
It’s safer there anyway
You were the audience I wrote for
But here, you’re not, today…
