Just Curious

Imagine things were different…
and you weren’t you
and I wasn’t me
and just for a moment
We were some other US.
Would you look at me with
different eyes? Through passion’s eyes?
Would you hold me closer?
Would you write your songs just for me?
Would you put your paper down
at breakfast, and talk to me?
Would your kisses linger longer
before leaving me each morning?
Or would complacency lure us into
the every-day predictables
of being simply
another version of US?
Just curious.
