130 miles

you painted your hands
against mine
with the dark shadowing them
and the stars gently
highlighting the edges
enough to make them seem
one
i could hear your stomach
rumbling with my head
placed on it
and i could feel your eyes
looking at me
just searching my face
memorizing its countours
your fingers touching my
hairline, grazing gently over
my thin eyebrows
we talked of cold winters nights
with the crackling cool sky
and the brilliant stars
that seem to want to pierce your
eyes and memory on those nights
and we talked of chance
and we talked of fate....
our fate, and waiting for whatever
will come, maybe a sign that
will tell us what to do next
130 miles you said, we had
driven 130 miles looking at the sky
and chasing it, wanting to
find where the stars met the horizon
or where we met each other
how with the music and me in his arms
heaven didn't seem that hard to
imagine, this little place of peace
at least for the moment, where we could
lay down our heads on each other
and forget that we had to worry
that we didn't know what we were waiting for
so we just looked at our hands
creating magical shadows in
the foreground, and made our stories
and dreamt of fairylands
then went off to meet them
