shadow

beside me, my shadow is making eye contact
trying to distract me from thoughts of alone
he's a pretty good spokesman, he learned from the master
he knows that disaster has become his home

behind me, my shadow now flirts with my conscience
he's a profit of patience; a listening ear
he's seen many battles and sat through the silence
of the days passing after the violence had cleared

my shadow, so ghostly, yet harmless in presence
is hoping his essence returns from the cold
he laughs at the mirror, so callous and spurning
he lives for the learning, and loves from the soul

it's a tell-tale sign that my shadow is fading
all his reciprocating has been chisled apart
it's a time of rebuilding the fires for the giving
the flames of the living give life to the dark

it's a love-lost illusion that led him to hiding
it seems joy and good tidings are foreign within
i'd better be careful, he's perched on my shoulder
as the words hit closer, the more painful to him

my shadow, how dare you defy me, your maker
i will make this now painstakingly clear:
i acknowledge your scars, but i see your potential
it is merely coincidence you are here

i know you are searching for love everlasting
when it comes to time passing, it's love by the drop
each moment is sacred and molded by action
rejoice in your passion
and don't ever stop
