movie stars and me.

I play act that I am a movie star,
but I'm just a scared girl playing for the crowd.
my smile blazing under the hot lights of your eyes.
but under this costume I press damp palms to knocking knees
and try to remember my script.
(I pause on cue and turn toward you.)
I'm the scared girl thats who I am.
My hair cropped short, bareing my face,
giving me confidence by taking away all I have to hide behind.
I'm just a scared girl.
My wardrobe stuffed with wisps of lace.
Whispers of nothing to cover these new found curves.
(The critics ask, are they for me or for you?)
armour forged of silk and chiffon?
or fancy bait to lure you to my bed.
but really, underneath the lights,
you are my movie star hero, and all I am
is a scared girl, hiding in your spotlight.
