I Had a Man

I had a man with rugged ways
an outdoors man was he
his voice was rough, his manner tough
til he came home to me.

I had a man who was not great
except perhaps to me
for I saw the gentle side of him
the world would never see.

I had a man who was tender
he was thoughtful, kind and true
when I was sick or feeling low
my man would see me through.

I had a man who loved me
he gave me all his heart
and we shared all the joys of life
until death we did part.

I'll miss him til my life's at end
and we're walking hand in hand
but til then I'll remember
that once, I had a man.
