SCENE 13

SCENE 13-EXT.-Beach. Day.
Derek's grandparents as young adults
They've just met. They are sitting on
a blanket in the sand near the water.
Man: You sure are pretty.
Woman: Thank you.
Man: I'm sure you get that all the
time.
Woman: I don't get pretty all the time.
I usually get radiant and lovely.
Man: Do you ever get modest?
Woman: Oh, to hell with false modesty.
I know I'm a dish. Stop looking at me
and look at that sunrise. Isn't that
somethin'?
Man: Looks like an enormous peach. You know,
you're the first girl I've ever watched the
sunrise with.
Woman: Keep talkin' like that and you're liable
to get kissed.
Man: Oh, you wouldn't kiss me.
Woman: Why not?
Man: You're scared I'd kiss ya back.
Woman: I'm not scared of anything.
[they kiss]
