Caught

On that fateful day I met you
I was innocent, unsuspecting, unworried
My only purpose to enjoy life
and what it brings.
across the span of miles
connected by nothing more than
a pair of keyboards
and a make-believe world
We explored together,
played together,
laughed together
for the space of but a few hours.

And now I stare at the screen,
waiting for you to return
Never having met you,
or seen you,
but knowing nevertheless
that my heart has made room
For someone I never met
And perhaps never will.
I am caught in a trap
Of my own making.
