CHRIS

I looked up
He just looked back
Stared back at me
With the very same face
The very same eyes
The very same smile
The very same frown

Never changing
Never different
The stillness of the stare
The withering pleasantry
Never ending
Never tiring

I reach up to touch his lips
But all I feel is the glass that protects him from me
He is looking at me
Staring deep into my eyes
Challenging me with that averted gaze
Asking me questions with no words
Telling me lies without moving his lips
Making promises I will never hear
In words he will never say to me

It will always be just me
Reaching out and listening
To hear him
To touch his face
To challenge, ask, lie and make promises to him
To look into his eyes

But he will never change
He will never answer
The glass makes him indifferent to me
He doesn't know me
He will look but never see me

I look back at him
But he has just turned away
