You Know My Color

pick a shade
cerulean, navy, cobalt, cornflower
whatever the shade
you know
I'm blue
blue like forever
blue like last year
blue like my feet
'cause they want
new shoes
I had a man
but he had no
staying power
I had a man
but the waters
ran dry
and I will cry rivers
for most
of forever
remembering how
it felt
to be held
in his embrace
everything was misty
around us
and we
were in
the center
solid & warm
and that's
a forever kinda thing
something rare
something real
the kind of thing
you can't fake
the kind of special
that's too good
to last
so leave rose and carnation
and crimson and scarlet
and violet and orchid
to luckier chicas
so that they can wear
a garden to their best friend's
wedding
and dance
into forever
with willing candidates
who are yummy like candy
but not as fattening
give me all of blue
so that I can wrap myself up
in clouds of nothingness
and float forever
high and free
and full
of moisture
