5th Amendment

You have no right to read my heart
to delve beneath my careful art
You have no right to tempt my soul
touch my spirit, make me whole

Your lightest touch trespasses here
both cause and cure of all my fear
Though you keep the letter of the laws
You hold me now without just cause

Perjured from the day we met were you
Traitor, deceitful, false, untrue
Grand theft heart the sin you made
And with my love your bail was paid

You have no jurisdiction now
Since you have shattered every vow
Standing aloof from passion's fire
Making of me a false fair liar

No words remain that I can speak
Except to deny that which I seek
The right to silence be my guide
salvage at least my battered pride
