beauty

i thought beauty
was something profound that if
i came upon it my senses
would be overloaded and
my body would capsize from
the sheer pain of its purity
but i found it
in your roughened skin in the scars
you bare and in your tired body
at night
i saw it in your tattoos marking
your life and its distances
and in the pain you try to hide
behind in your solemn face
beauty was never so profound
as it was when i fell
asleep with you
