In Your Eyes (I Get Lost)

I get lost in the blue...
the color of cotton candy on a paper cone,

I was six then and each strand shot a wave of gooey sweetness
into my warm mouth....melting... dribbling down my chin.

I could never lick fast enough to catch it all
But I tried like a laughing fool.

I get lost in the black
Falling, yet fearless.

When I was seven and the monster ate my soul,
I embraced the black, held it like an unfaithful lover you fear to let go.

Now I know
You can't own the black, but it can own you.

So I will freefall right through the dark
And be flying, falling into you.

I get lost in the white
Symbolic purity with streaks of cerulean

Through which I want to drink deeply
Quenching my parched heart.

As I gaze into the peaceful greek waters
Resting in your eyes.

My spirit is refreshed
Before my lips even remember what to do.

And with a smile, I realize anew,
That I am lost.
Lost again in the blue.
