The Chat

In a scroll of color and words
and names without faces
I find solace.
I can not be with you
so I slip silently back
to the world in which I
found you.

Or was it you who found me?

What difference, who found who?
My heart, my soul
were empty before your touch,
consumed with a longing
that you clearly saw
and pointed out to me in
such a quiet way.

You opened a door
I thought was locked for good,
allowing a flood of emotion
to drown my strongest reserve.

Now I sit and wait
for a time when we can
be together, a chill
passing through me
as reassurances grow
more vague with
each passing day.

If only the lock
had been more sound
and you had not
broken through.

So I am back
where we started out,
trying to substitute idle
conversation for the
memory of a love I
didn't know I wanted
and now can't expel.

It always comes full circle, doesn't it.
