The Wench, Defined
First of all, lose the image of the buxom chick with a full tray of tankards---
a wench is more than a woman with formidable breasts---in fact some have small,medium, one or no breasts at all.
"Wench" is about heart, soul, and attititude, and in case you haven't noticed, there's a number of us out there. Yes We are sassy---we're tough when we have to be, tender when we wish to be, and aren't waiting around for some hero to rescue us.
We don't wait for rescue because while we waited, the bad guys might do us in, and people count on us, so survival is relevent.
"Wench" is a woman with her wits about her---never to be mistaken for a girl, or god help us, a princess. She carries herself with the grace of being able to work her way through bad times---and if her hair isn't perfect, too bad.
She works for a living---and no job is "below her" because above all else, she's practical. She has a heart yes---but she has a head as well---and her brain is the larger of the two.
So wench isn't a cute term---it's a badge of honor, a term of endearment shared and bestowed by survivors. We allow men that we love or respect to use it---but not as casually as salt please...
But male or female---don't use the word unless you embrace what it means.
Don't claim the word unless you've bought and paid for it.
The True Wenches will be keeping a watchful eye upon y'all...
