Held

the tears came from nowhere
and as they streamed down
I couldn't speak
embarrassed by the flood
but you were gentle and kind
and your goodness gave me the courage
to tell you what I really felt
and you didn't laugh when I told you
I felt like we were Lennie and George
talking about a little house with colored rabbits
a dream too distant and beautiful to ever be realized

like a true shaman you absorbed my pain
and made it all better
with the healing words you spoke
and when you told me words were no good, that you
wanted to hold me
believe me, darling
...I was held
