Maybe She Knew

I was just walking home that night. Just another Saturday night. Nothing different from the past.

But she was laying on the sidewalk next to his truck, and I saw that something wrong was happening. She was laying on the ground, and she was scared.

It took a few minutes for him to realize that I was just standing there right behind him, hanging out in the church parking lot, elbows on the fence, waiting for his response.

And as she stared at me, wishing she was somewhere else, he charged at me, yelling, "So this is your White Knight?... Your knight in shining armor, huh?"

"No," I said to him. "I just want to make sure she's OK. That's all, just want to make sure she's safe."

She stood up and tried to explain that they were having a disagreement, "just a simple difference of opinion," she said. I saw the pain in her eyes as she walked back to his truck.

Standing outside of this church parking lot, wondering what happened. Maybe she knew I was here to help.

Then again, maybe not.
