surrender

it was said to me that
the best we could do
for each other
is to better ourselves
and a year later
here i am
standing in the rain
with you
my body warm and heated
and raw
from your recent touch
leaning against you for
support
to hold me up from
falling into
you
like i had so many
so many
so
many...
times before
even while driving down a deserted
road as you demanded my kisses
with a smile
or when you asked
me how it feels to be the
swan to your ugly duckling
when all i wanted
was to put a smile on your
face and in your heart
to jump into the ocean
naked with you and run
free across the country
without looking back
at what had stopped us
in the past
to watch sleep fall over you
the only time
you find peace in the liquid
black dreams you don't remember
now i look for that peace
but i only find you
