SCENE 27

SCENE 27-INT.-Becca and Derek's bedroom. Night.
Becca and Derek are enjoying the afterglow.
Derek: What number am I, babe?
Becca: You're number eight. What number am I?
Derek: Uh...fifteen. Do you think less of me now?
Becca: Please! Do you think less of me?
Derek: I'm not gonna lie. I wish I'd been the first.
But I don't think any less of you. I'm surprised you
haven't had more.
Becca: I guess I passed up a lot of opportunities in
my Bible thumpin' days. I knew this girl who had 70.
But she was in a sorority.
Derek: Did you ever go to college?
Becca: I went to UTSA for one semester. I hated it.
Derek: I'd like to get a degree in philosophy someday.
Becca: That's cool. You could get financial aid. And
I'd help you study.
Derek: What about you? What do you want?
Becca: I've always wanted to be a writer. I had this
teacher in fifth grade who really encouraged me to
pursue my creative writing. I've got spiral notebooks
filled with poems and short stories. I've written a
couple of novels but they both sucked. I'm pretty
good at dialogue but horrible at prose.
Derek: Don't give up so easily, babe. I'd love to
read your stuff.
Becca: This may sound wacky, but now I'm afraid that
something horrible is gonna happen.
Derek: Like everything is so perfect right now, things
can only get worse?
Becca: Exactly. I mean, here I am, crazy in love with you...
and you aren't doing anything to make me hate you or
myself.
Derek: I know what you mean. I've been burned before, too.
This time it seems too good to be true...like a really
good dream that won't end.
Becca: I won't wake up if you won't.
