SCENE 56
SCENE 56-EXT.-Parking lot. Day.
Becca and Derek are standing in the nursing home
parking lot saying good-bye. Papaw is sitting in
the passenger seat of Becca's truck reading *Alice's
Adventures in Wonderland.* He's wearing his cowboy hat.
Becca and Derek are facing each other, holding hands.
Derek: I'm going to miss you.
Becca: Duh.
Derek: I guess you'll be having too much fun to miss me.
Becca: I'll miss you at night when I'm sleeping alone in
a strange bed. I'll miss you when I see other couples. I'll
miss you in the shower.
Derek: Just please don't get drunk and mistake Papaw for me.
He'd have a heart attack.
Becca laughs.
Becca: If I ever get that drunk, I'll really need to check
into rehab.
Papaw knocks on the window. Rolls it down.
Papaw: Let's get this show on the road.
Becca: This is our first time to say good-bye.
Derek: It's never a good bye. It's always a bad bye.
Papaw: Where'd ya get that gem? Out of a Cracker Jack box?
Derek: Papaw, be nice. I'm loaning you my girl for two long weeks.
Becca: Kiss me and get it over with.
Derek wraps his arms around Becca. They kiss.
Becca: Mmm. Oh, yes. I'll definitely be back.
