Dreaming With My Heart

I would spend the first balmy night of June with you,
and ask that you hold me close
till the first shooting star crosses our eyes
and then with that fading glitter
still written across my eyelids
I will ask you to take my lips softly,
as if I were the first you loved,
and you feared I might shatter
if your touch is too ardent.
I would ask you to make love
and hope that you would not think less of me,
and whisper as you take possession of my skin
that you have claimed a bit of soul
that you will hold
as long as you have wish of it,
and pray that would be ever after.
