SCENE 47

SCENE 47-INT.-Louie Louie's. Night.
A skinny guy in glasses is onstage singing
"Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh...offkey and
without charisma. Papaw stands still, watching
the performance as if he's mesmerized. Derek
pats Papaw's back and Becca leads them to a
table in front of the stage. They all sit
down. Becca hands Papaw a song selection book.
Becca: Find a song, Mr. Sinatra.
Papaw: Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm not
Italian and I've never had a hot date with Ava Gardner.
Papaw glances through the book.
Becca puts her arm around Derek and whispers in his ear.
Derek: No amount of bribery can get me on that stage.
Becca: Come on, just one song for your sweetest girl.
Derek: Maybe after a pitcher of beer and a couple of
shots.
Papaw: I don't have to get drunk. I can serenade this
woman sober.
Becca: Have you found your song?
Papaw: Yes.
A waitress appears.
Derek: You have remarkable timing.
Waitress: Great! What can I get ya'll?
Derek: A pitcher of Shiner Bock and two shots of cinnamon
Schnapps.
Becca: I'd like a shot of Cuervo with salt and lime. Papaw,
what would you like?
Papaw: I believe I'll have a Brandy Alexander.
Waitress: A man after my own heart.
The waitress walks away. Papaw leans toward Becca.
Papaw: Wait until she hears me sing.
