fire

memories tied down and placed in the "to-be-erased" pile
to be continued
or set ablaze at a later date
i'm amazed at this crazy state of mind
and no amount of binder twine will hold it for long
picked a fine time to lose my place
in this line
in this race
might be chasing a bluebird
or a lump of coal
hard to tell this time of night
i should know
by now
somehow
so they say
the ones that know
the ones that really know just sit and grin
at out-of-control motions
whether it's flailing at a keyboard
or diving headlong into the ocean
restless, man
every fixture and force pointing towards a new game
with a new lover with a new name
and the same coat of arms
speaking the same codes
the same dashes and dots
the same code of honor
using the buddy system to it's fullest
she'll blind me with conscience
and cast the final careless cigarette butt
at this house of cards i call memory
