Pieced Among the Ruins

Finally at peace within myself.
The battlefield is left behind.
Mere fragments of a pseudo love lay crumbled.
I wore my armor well..bumps, bruise, and scars
of a war torn relationship have left its mark.

Yet I manage to smile, sigh, and move forward
while waving a white flag declaring a peace.
I take one last glance back and all that I see
is the hazy residue on the horizon.

Approaching ever so slowly are the distant storm
clouds...rumbling their approach..anxious and intense..
Perhaps to wash away the last of any remaining
embers that may smoulder for a time....

A fast forward...I hasten to leave this area where
love no longer exists...to find my other half of
the missing piece....outside of myself....somewhere
in the coolness of the moonlight....its beams
will not scorch so tender a soul and the its craters
will hold me within its breast.....at peace.
