Pan de Cada Dia

before you
love was an exercise in futility
an endless junior high pep rally
a joyless Fundamental Baptist sermon on the Dangers of Premarital Sex
love was Someday I'll Laugh About This Until I Cry funny
(But I'm Crying Now sad)
most of all
love was unfulfilled hunger
I was a beggar at the banquet
wearing ash on my face
now love is bread
every day a fresh loaf
hot out of the oven
...you feed me
and I am nourished
and I am content
I don't long for the rampion in the witch's garden
I don't look out the window and dream impossible dreams
you need me
and that
is enough
