Jelly In My Knees

It is miserable grey damp
and utterly forlorn
in an unrepentent April sort of way---
and I'm tired of the waxy first flowers
that bloom,
and collapse under their own weight---
I want something lush,
and fragrant----
a high summer rose
heart's blood scarlet
fully aware of it's scent
and sassy ways,
unfraid of the moisture
that is the weight of dew---
botany with atttitude
to set me senses
on a low simmer
and toss a little
salsa caliente into the mix.
I got the sweet covered---
now I need something to heat the mix---
jalapeno jelly,
to rasp the tongue
and shoot this damned milquetoast spring
into high summer overdrive...
and you can keep the dry heat nonsense---
I'll take the steam.
