subjective morphology

another word was spoken
left dangling in the air
i played my hand
and at her command
sat silently and stared

i love the awkward moments
when things are just avoided
when something said
to ears deaf or dead
make your feelings feel exploited

i think i'll buy a megaphone
a microphone and amplifier
plug them in
say "how've you been?"
in the voice of a town crier

then i'll ask you out to dinner
or a picnic on the shore
i don't mind
rejection's fine
i just hate to be ignored
