I'm Smart...

When I was 4
I learned how to read.
I was smart
and knew I was going places.
(kindergarten, here I come!)

In the 8th grade
I won 3rd place
in the Science Fair.
(a solar powered windmill)
I was smart
and knew I was going places.
(high school, look out!)

At 17
I graduated 10th in my class.
(a proud day for mom and dad)
I was smart
and knew I was going places.
(Army, be all you can be.)

Over the next 8 years
I fell in and out of love.
(my own personalized hell)
But I was smart
and knew I was going places.
(I'd get IT right one of these days)

At 25
I look in the mirror
and see a girl
the first lines on her face
her eyes holding too many memories
her heart a patchwork quilt.
I smile a small, private smile.
I am smart.
   I am staying here.

Screw looking for love! Let it find me.
