The Man and the Mermaid
This story has a sad ending.
It's about a mermaid, in love with a man
Who could not ignore the tidal pull
On her heart and mind.
He had come halfway and more
Diving the depths, to be at her side.
On coral reefs they danced
Below winter moons they gazed
Round reflecting currents, hands joined
They found delight in each other.
But he couldn't live under water.
That was a fact of life.
And the mermaid
Could not ignore the tidal pull
On her heart and mind.
And so the ocean reclaimed her
Pulling her back into the surf.
And while her tears were washed away
By the restless sea
Her sadness never left her.
She never ever forgot him.
