Battlefield Memories

Those rolling hills
I still see the fog surrounding them as they covered the countryside
in early morning.
The cold, crisp air almost made breathing painful
The trees, still lifeless from the night before, bent sorrowfully,
almost as if they had lost their own life and didn't want any back

You could already hear the chants of the people,
as their morning songs reverberated throughout the hills
sounding ominious and threatening as they spread their ways
   throughout the morning wilds

And at the same time, everything was relatively still,
my party waking, and the sun still stifled by the clouds
that looked like rain would almost be inevitable if we stayed still
and yet the world ceased to arise itself, staying asleep
         and hiding
from the waking of morning and the drowing of humanity's burden

Yes, I still remember the water in the air, the chill of the morn,
I will never forget it
All my life and forever after will I recall those beautiful days
When
    the world was truly innocent
When

I knew that all I needed was the scent of the wildflowers and
the sweetness of the night

When I could see the world for what it truly was
and feel the warmth and kindness of it's awakening
