A Christmas Present

Christmas is here !
Jingle bells a ringing, children’s voices a singing.
Presents are given, with merry Christmas wishings.

I upend my mind, as I glance at you,
head bent down low, buried deeply in work,
not seeming to realise, a gift’s soon to be due.

What shall I get you, as a Christmas surprise,
that might light up your face, and delight your eyes.

A sweet little softtoy, to keep you company ?
A reason to look up, a break from monotony.
How about sinful chocolates, tempting to your lips ?
A delicious treat, always hard to forfeit.

As if catching my thoughts,
you casually look up, eyes inquiring.
breaking into a pout, yet ending with a grin,

I elect back a blank stare, though my mind is now clear,
I now know the gift, to round out your year.
A poem just for you, simple and true.

Just my own special way, of wishing to you,
A very merry Christmas,
And a happy birthday too.
