Today's Lesson

The understanding you said you sought
the nice and honest guy
the man with wit and winning smile
arrived, and ruined your excuse.

As long as your checklist
remained unfullfilled
you were safe
behind your loneliness.

You could stand alone
behind the walls of your need
insisting that none had ever come along
to offer you what you dsired most.

I frighten you, don't I?
There is nothing on your love list left
to hold out hope
for your continued safety.

I am too good for you?
I deserve someone better  than you?
Here it comes, the really hated line..
You are a really nice guy, but..

Perhaps I should change clothes
And be the drunk of your dreams
The addict of your desires
The abuser you would cling to.

Do lies light the stars in your eyes?
A slap or two across your flawless face
fuels the fire in your sweet loins?
Oh, come sweet victim, and suffer to your heart's desire!

But no.  It seems the timeless tale is truely told
I have no faith in love and tenderness here
Before I win your heart, or any other I must remember..
Nice guys do finish last.
