A Little Boy Again

Oh, yes

I have walked this path before

Arrived at this very precipice

Heard those very same waves of love

As they break on the bones of the past

Past lovers, both right and wrong

Who have come before me

And chosen to fall

Safe in the knowledge that the waters of love are a gentle captor

And a masterful sailor

Who makes no promise

But barters an equitable exchange with every heart

But for once it is different

Because I did not have to jump

In a whirlwind of passion I turned

Just in time

To hear you squeal, see you leap, fold you into my arms

Encase you with strength and steel

Allow you to taste my spirit in a heated kiss

An electric spark as I stroke your tresses

Your face, your lips

Learning a new language of the senses,

Call it braille of the body

As my hands speak it with the authority of a linguist

Yet insistence of a man

But with the re-found innocence of a boy.

And it was the momentum of our carefree abandon

That led to this deep, scary, amazing plunge

And all I can say right now baby is this.

You hold tight to me

And let me hold tight to you

And while I'll let you fall as fast and as furious as you choose

I'll not let you land alone, hurt and broken

But will offer you a gift

Of the wings of my heart

And the feather light lift of my soul

To allow you to fly, fly, fly away

Safe in the knowledge of your return

To the center

Of this artist's heart

That beats for you

In the chest of this suddenly scared,

Madly in love little boy,

Standing before you  with a handful of daffodils.
